Biking & Hiking
Combined
Noshery & Biking Event
Thursday, August 21st—Mineola Taco Ride… (by Gene
Hug)
OK... Here's the story. Gary Lamb hurt his back and can no longer
bike, hike, or even golf. The OSC board looked for someone to
replace Gary for Biking & Hiking, so I volunteered. But not
because I'm a martyr--I've always wanted to hike & bike, but
couldn't find the time. In fact, I'm not much of a biker. I did
one other OSC biking event with Gary last year, and it seemed
like the Tour de France peddling back to our cars against a 30
mph wind, uphill—and it nearly killed me. Maybe an experienced
rider should be taking over, but I will do my best.
The Noshery Tour has been working well as long as we chose an
establishment west of 90th Street. For this month’s event,
a "combo" biking and noshery event, we'll peddle 9.8
miles to Mineola, Iowa, to partake in the food and beverage specials
at the Mineola Steakhouse; I think the special is 6 tacos and
a pitcher of beer for $11. Along the way, we’ll stop and
enjoy a drink or two at Margaritaville (the half way point). If
you’d prefer the food and drink only, you can drive your
car to Mineola and enjoy the specials and stay as long as you
want, but beware, there will be plenty of bikers in town.
The plan: Meet at Lewis Central Middle School
parking lot (3601 Highway 275, Council Bluffs) between 5:45 and
6:00 p.m. We'll hopefully leave at 6:00 p.m. Help me enjoy my
first taco ride (sort of) and the 502nd Taco Ride ever.... If
you decide to stay past dusk, I'm told you need lights for your
bike, both front and back, but I'm sure you knew that.
