Message from the President

Dear Omaha Sports Club members:
It has been my honor to serve you these past three years, and during that time, I have had the privilege to witness many members volunteer their time and energy for the benefit of the club. We have a handful of members, however, who care deeply about the club—as I’m sure you do, too—and who recognize also that its existence depends on members stepping forward and volunteering to organize and manage the club’s activities. Sadly, our willingness to rely on these same volunteers is wearing them out. If we want OSC to continue and to thrive, we all need to make an effort to help keep the club running smoothly by assisting either league managers or members of the Board of Directors. However, when I have asked people in the past to help the club, many have told me they are just too busy. Well, folks, the people who are doing the work for us now are just as busy as everyone else. The truth is, we all need to volunteer and lend a hand.

Please take a minute to look at the list of OSC directors, including league managers, on the back of the Sportscaster to see who is responsible for what activities. I’m sure each one would appreciate your assistance in one way or another. You never know, you may even suggest a more productive way to manage one of the league managers’ or directors’ duties. Because I believe in the goodness in our human nature, I am confident you will see and recognize the needs of our club, come forward, and get involved either by helping out or running for office in September.

The OSC nominating committee currently is looking for OSC members who would be interested in running for one of three executive board positions during the annual election in September: vice president, treasurer, and secretary. And if you have ever served on the Board of Directors before, you also would be eligible to run for president.

As many of you know, I will not be running for a fourth term as the OSC president. Nonetheless, I look forward to continuing to help the club as Ex Officio so I can continue to cherish the many friendships I have been so very fortunate to develop.

To all who in the past have given to OSC and to those who presently are serving the club—thank you! You have created and maintained the level of excellence we all are fortunate enough to enjoy.

Please feel free to email or call me if you have any questions or would like more information.
